Recently, in an interview, he spoke openly about his journey from Bollywood to politics. In this interview, Hema Malini told that when she had decided to enter politics, Dharmendra was not in favor of her move.
Actress and MP Hema Malini Told that it was his mother who encouraged him to enter politics, while Vinod Khanna guided him. However, her husband, actor Dharmendra was against this decision of Hema Malini. The main reason for this was Dharmendra’s own experience in politics.
Dharmendra was worried about security
Hema Malini told that after entering politics, BJP used to send her to different parts of the country for election campaign. She said that Dharmendra was always worried about her safety when she went to campaign. He said that initially he was very scared. Hema said that Dharmendra often used to say that you are sure that you are safe in the crowd. He often felt worried even while traveling by helicopter.

Hema said that during the election campaign she also realized her popularity among the public. She told that she often asked people, have you people come to see me? He used to say, yes. While referring to the initial days of campaigning for Vinod Khanna, Hema Malini said that initially I was nervous because I did not know how to give political speeches. He told that my mother had written my first speech in Hindi.
First speech given for Vinod Khanna
The BJP MP told that he had given this speech in Gurdaspur for Vinod Khanna during the 1999 Lok Sabha election campaign. She said that I would say that Vinod Khanna was the one who brought me into politics. However, Hema also credited her mother for her decision to enter politics. He said that my mother told me that BJP is a good party because of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani. Hema Malini said that initially, I had refused to enter politics, but on my mother’s persuasion I entered politics.
Condition of contesting elections from Mathura
Hema Malini told that she contested the Lok Sabha elections in the years 2014, 2019 and 2024 and won all three times. Hema also said that her only condition for contesting the elections was that she would always contest from Mathura only because she is a devotee of Lord Krishna. He said that initially, that seat was reserved for someone else, but later it was given to him. This is not the first time that Hema has talked about Dharmendra’s concern about his political career.
