Sameera Reddy has once again spoken openly about the apartheid happening in the film industry and the standards of beauty. In a recent interview, she told that during her first film ‘Maine Dil Tujhko Diya’, she was shown two to three shades fairer than her actual skin tone. She was seen with Sohail Khan in this film.
Sohail Khan’s complexion was very fair in the film, due to which Sameera had to do very heavy make-up to make him look fair. Not only color but Sameera also had to face body shaming in her debut film.
Sameera Reddy was a victim of apartheid
In an interview given to Hutterfly, Sameera told that she had to face apartheid in the film. She told that she was asked to apply a foundation which was two-three shades lighter than her skin colour. He told that due to this his face sometimes looked grey. To make the complexion of the face and body look similar, she had to apply make-up on her entire body. She said that not only the film industry, but many girls have to listen to taunts about their complexion or weight in their own homes. He raised the question who has decided the definition of beauty.
Sameera told that such things have a deep impact on the confidence of any person. According to him, he had to portray such an image on screen, which was completely different from his real identity and thinking. He said that it took him about 20 years to fully accept himself and overcome his insecurities.
She also became a victim of body shaming.
She also told that in the initial phase of her career, she always used padded bras, bum pads and colored contact lenses. Even the costume designers used to advise him to change his look. Sameera said that she was told many times that pads alone would not suffice and she should make some changes in her body. Continuous such things had reduced his confidence a lot.
