
Delhi High Court has suspended District Judge Veena Rani, who presides over the Commercial Court. This decision was taken in the full court meeting held on July 10. In the same meeting, it was also decided to suspend another district judge, Vinay Singhal. In this way, this is the second case of suspension that has come to light within a very short period of time. Veena Rani’s suspension happened after the vigilance investigation conducted on the orders of High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay.
The news of Vinay Singhal’s suspension had already surfaced. He was accused of appointing some unqualified lawyers as court auctioneers and giving such judicial orders that they could get payment more than the limit prescribed under the relevant rules.
What was said in the resolution?
Vinay Singhal’s suspension was made public on July 10 itself, while Rani’s suspension was made public on July 15 through a resolution issued by Registrar General Arun Bhardwaj. It was said that disciplinary action is being considered against Rani.
The resolution said, “Since disciplinary action is being contemplated against Veena Rani, an officer of the Delhi Higher Judicial Service, this Court, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (a) of sub-rule (1) of Rule 3 of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969 and Rule 27 of the Delhi Higher Judicial Service Rules, 1970, Suspends with immediate effect.”
Ban on leaving Delhi also
The resolution also directed that during the period of suspension, Rani’s headquarters would be the office of the Principal District and Sessions Judge (HQ) at Saket Court, Delhi. Apart from this, it is also ordered that as long as this order remains in force, the headquarters of Veena Rani will be the office of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, South East, Saket. Veena Rani will not leave Delhi without the permission of the competent authority.
