PV Sindhu reaches Japan Open 2026 Final: India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu created history in the women’s singles semi-finals of Japan Open 2026 on Saturday. 31 year old Sindhu has entered the final of this tournament for the first time by defeating world number four player Chen Yufei. With this victory, Sindhu has also ended the losing streak of five consecutive matches against her Chinese opponent. In this semi-final match, when Sindhu was leading 21-19, 15-10, Chen Yufei had to withdraw mid-match due to a hamstring injury. Due to which PV Sindhu got the ticket for the final.
Sindhu maintained pressure from the beginning
Sindhu’s strategy in this big match was very clear, to take the lead from the beginning and maintain it for a long time. However, the start of the match was not ideal as Yufei took the lead in the early games. But Sindhu soon made a brilliant comeback and took a strong lead of four points by the middle of the first game. After this, former Olympic champion Chen Yufei tried to make a comeback and leveled the score at 19-19. Despite this, Sindhu did not lose patience and capitalized on the first game point and won the first game 21-19.
The story remained the same in the second game also. Sindhu maintained her dominance over the match from the very beginning. They easily gained a lead of 15-10, after which the Chinese player decided not to play the match further due to pain.
First final after 2024
This is Sindhu’s first final match this season, which has come in a Super 750 event. The Indian legend last played a final in the year 2024, when he won the Syed Modi International title. With this victory, Sindhu has continued her wonderful comeback on the badminton court. It is noteworthy that at the beginning of this year, Sindhu’s ranking had fallen to 18th place in the world. But on the basis of her strong performance, she has again returned to the top-10 and now she has become the world number 9 player.
Who will face each other in the final?
Now in the title match to be held on Sunday, PV Sindhu will face the winner of the second semi-final. The second semi-final is to be played between Akane Yamaguchi of Japan and Putra Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia. After this explosive performance, fans are hopeful that Sindhu will continue her excellent form in the finals and win her first title of the year for the country.
