To make the ration system modern and transparent in Delhi, the government is soon going to implement Smart-PDS (Smart Public Distribution System). According to the Delhi government, the purpose of this new system is to provide better facilities to the people and eliminate irregularities in ration distribution.
What is smart ration system?
Till now, to get ration, people had to go to the shop and stand in queue and many times there were complaints of irregularities or delays. In the new smart system the entire process will be digital and transparent.
In the new system, ration card holders will be able to see through their mobile or online portal when and how much their ration was issued and will also be able to do complete tracking of the delivery. With this, they will not need to go to the shop again and again.
Ration card will be smart
The old ration card will be replaced by a smart ration card, in which
- QR code will be
- digital information will be linked
- Complete information will appear as soon as you scan
Easy to update family information
Now in Ration Card:
- Adding new member name
- Removing a member’s name
All these works can be done online. With this, people will not have to visit government offices.
Ration will be available through face scan
Biometric face recognition will be added to the new system. i.e:
–There will be facial recognition to get ration
Irregularities like taking fake ration or lifting grains in the name of others will stop.
Monitoring of officers also…
According to the information, before implementing this system, a UAT (User Acceptance Testing) committee of 16 members has been formed. Officials of 13 districts will test this system, so that it works easily and properly for the common people.
Ration will be available in the entire country
Under the One Nation, One Ration Card scheme, the ration card holder of Delhi will be able to go to any state of the country and get his ration.
How many people will benefit?
About 17 lakh ration card holders in Delhi will get the direct benefit of this new system.

The government says that with this smart system, ration distribution will be faster and easier, transparency will increase, corruption and black marketing will reduce.

The government claims that now the process of taking ration is going to be easier, safer and digital than before. This will provide convenience to the common people and will also increase transparency in the system.
