While talking to AI Chatbot, if your child asks AI about suicide or self-harm, then Meta’s new safety feature will immediately alert the parents. This chatbot is available on Instagram and other meta platforms. This move could change the way parents monitor their teenagers’ interactions with artificial intelligence. The reason for this change may be that AI companies are facing scrutiny over how their chatbots respond to users experiencing mental health crises, especially young children.
This new feature is initially being rolled out to parents using Instagram’s parental supervision tools in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Meta says that there are plans to expand this feature worldwide by the end of this year.
Meta’s AI will review chats before alerting
According to Meta, a special AI A system has been created which will detect those conversations in which a teenager clearly mentions self-harm or suicide. However, the company says that AI itself will not take the final decision. Each flagged conversation will be manually reviewed before sending a notification to parents.
“We understand how frustrating it can be for parents to receive these alerts,” Meta said in a blog post. So, as we improve our detection, we’ll manually review all chats flagged by AI before sending alerts. The latest update builds on the security features introduced by Meta over the past few months. Parents can also see the topics their child has discussed with Meta AI in the past week.
