Laxman Sacrificing 14 years of Sleep:Ramayana is a Hindu scripture written by Maharishi Valmiki. In Ramayana, the life of Lord Shri Ram in Tretayuga and his activities on earth have been described in detail. According to Ramayana, keeping the promise of his father Dashrath, Lord Shri Ram accepted exile for 14 years and performed his pastimes during the exile itself.
His wife Sita and younger brother Lakshman ji also accompanied Shri Ram in exile. According to mythology, Lakshman ji remained in the service of his elder brother day and night. He did not sleep even for a day during his entire exile. For this reason he is also called Guda Kesh. That is, the lord of sleep. His not sleeping for 14 years was later linked to the murder of Meghnad. Let us know this interesting story in detail.
according to legend…
According to the legend, Lankapati Ravana was a great scholar. There was no other greater Pandit than him in the world. He wanted to make his son Meghnad more talented, brave and learned than himself. His wish was that Meghnad should become immortal. Therefore, at the time of his birth, Ravana had asked all the planets to be present at one place i.e. in the eleventh house, but Lord Shanidev did not obey Ravana.
Shani Dev sat in the 12th house. Due to which Meghnad Azar could not become immortal. After a time Meghnad defeated all the gods including Indra. After winning the war, when Meghnad started leaving heaven, he took Lord Indra with him. Meghnad took Indra to Lanka. Then later on the request of Lord Brahma, Meghnad freed Lord Indra. In return, Meghnad asked him for the boon of becoming immortal.
Lord Brahma gave this boon
Lord Brahma told Meghnad that this boon is not possible, the death of anyone who has come to earth is certain, but Meghnad did not waver from his words. Then Brahma ji told Meghnad that he would get a chariot after completing the yagya of his clan goddess Nikumbhala Devi. If he fights sitting on this chariot, he will neither be defeated nor will he die.
Brahma ji also gave a boon to Meghnad that his death on earth would happen only at the hands of a person who had not slept for 14 years. Lakshman was the only one who could kill Meghnad, because he did not sleep for 14 years during his exile. This is the reason why Meghnad died at the hands of Lakshman during the Ram-Ravana war.
