Pakistani Home Minister reaches Iran, brings special message from Shahbaz and Munir for Mujtaba

June 7, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Pakistan has taken an important diplomatic initiative amid the ongoing tension between America and Iran. Pakistan’s Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi reached Iran’s capital Tehran. He told that he has brought a special letter for Iran’s Supreme Leader Mujtaba Khamenei on behalf of Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief. This is Mohsin Naqvi’s third visit to Iran in the last few weeks.

According to Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim, Mohsin Naqvi said, I have come to Mujtaba Khamenei with a special message from the Prime Minister and Army Chief of Pakistan. According to reports, Naqvi’s visit is part of an effort to reduce the ongoing dispute between America and Iran and to take forward talks between the two countries. Earlier in April too, an attempt was made to hold direct peace talks between America and Iran, but no formal agreement could be reached between the two countries.

What is Naqvi’s plan on this tour?

It has become clear from Naqvi’s visit to Iran that Pakistan is trying to continue the dialogue between America and Iran. On reaching Tehran, Naqvi was welcomed by Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. After this, a schedule was fixed for his meeting with many senior Iranian leaders. These include Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi.

Before this visit, Mohsin Naqvi had met Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two leaders discussed the Tehran visit and related issues. The Prime Minister also gave necessary instructions to Naqvi for this visit.

2 months of ceasefire are being completed

During the meeting, Naqvi also informed Shehbaz Sharif about their recent meetings in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting. According to the Home Ministry, he met Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Bishkek, where the two leaders discussed Pakistan-Iran relations and the regional situation.

These activities are taking place at a time when there is tension in West Asia. The April 8 ceasefire between America and Iran is in force, but the attacks still continue. The tension between the two sides has not completely ended. Since then, America and Iran have been conveying messages to each other through various intermediary countries and diplomatic channels. This new initiative of Pakistan is also being considered a part of the same effort.
