OMG! Salary of Rs 2.5 lakh, still feeling empty! Corporate professional’s emotional post on Reddit made people think

June 3, 2026 by Uma Shankar

In today’s era, most of the people are busy trying to earn more and more money for a better life and future. It is often believed that the more money you have, the more happiness you will have, but these days a post went viral on social media which has raised questions on this belief. While sharing his feelings, a corporate employee said that despite getting a good salary, he feels emptiness and sadness from inside.

This post was shared on the social media platform Reddit, where the guy openly told that he earns around Rs 2.5 lakh every month. In the eyes of the society, he is a successful man, but according to him, despite this financial success, he does not have the happiness in his life which used to be there at the time of low income. In the post, he wrote that every month a message comes on his phone, informing him that Rs 2.5 lakh has been deposited in his account. From outside it seems like a big achievement and people consider it a symbol of success. But a question arises in his mind that why despite earning so well, he is not able to feel enthusiasm and satisfaction.

how has life become

Recalling his old days, he said that when his monthly income was only Rs 25,000, life seemed more colorful and fulfilling. At that time even small things became a cause of happiness. Having a dinner of Rs 500 with friends seemed no less than a celebration. Buying a new shirt felt like a special occasion. Every expenditure had a significance and every small achievement brought joy to the heart.

Bande told that at that time the value of money was not determined only by its amount but by the happiness and experiences one got from it. Despite limited resources, he felt life more deeply. He felt that he was truly living every moment of his life, but with time his income increased and today he has reached a level where many people dream of reaching. Despite this, enthusiasm has disappeared from his life. He wrote that now he feels as if he has become an ordinary data entry operator of his own bank account, who just watches the coming and going of money on the screen.

how money is spent

He told that as soon as the salary comes into the account, a large part of it gets separated immediately. Almost half of the income goes into investments, mutual funds and emergency accounts. He is constantly trying to make the future safe, but in the process he is forgetting to enjoy the present life. According to him, he is saving money for a future that he has not even seen yet. In worrying about the years to come, he ignores many of his present desires and needs. The remaining money also gradually gets exhausted in various expenses.

He wrote that rent eats up a major part of his income. Apart from this, electricity, water, internet and other household expenses also regularly impact the budget. Then comes the responsibility of the parents, to whom he considers it his job to provide financial help. He is happy that he is able to support his family, but at the same time he also feels that most of his hard work was spent on improving the lives of others.

When all the expenses of the month are completed, then he has very little money left for himself. This is the reason why now his earnings seem like just a number. The amount in the bank account is definitely increasing, but the happiness we get from it is continuously decreasing. Bande also said in his post that responsibilities, worries about the future and middle class thinking have bound him in a circle where he earns continuously, but he is not able to live life. When he looks at his bank balance, he sees only figures, whereas when he looks at his life, he feels a strange emptiness.

This post quickly went viral on social media and thousands of people expressed their opinion on it. Many people said that they too have gone through similar feelings. Some users believed that after a certain level, money is necessary but does not guarantee happiness.
