The rapid pace at which AI is changing the way of working has created new concerns about jobs in the minds of youth around the world. The situation is such that the youth no longer want to depend on just one job. They fear that if AI starts replacing them in the future, their earnings will be directly affected. This is the reason why a large number of people are doing some other work along with their full-time job.
Inflation, rising rents and high cost of buying a home have also increased this concern. In such a situation, the youth have started feeling that their future is not secure only by relying on one salary, hence they are looking for new ways to increase their income and a story related to this has come into discussion among the people these days. Which surprised everyone.
How much do you earn?
24 year old Celes Chew, a resident of Singapore, is a good example of this. She works in the marketing sector and has seen before her eyes that AI can now create such advertisements and pictures in a few minutes, which earlier required designers and creative teams. This is why he started a small cafe from his home on weekends. Here she sells tarts and drinks, earning an additional income of about 500 Singapore dollars every month. He believes that people will always like food and personal experience prepared by their own hands, so this kind of work will not be easily taken away by AI.
Similarly, 32 year old Elle Lee works as a personal assistant in a finance company during the day. But as soon as evening comes, his other work starts. Several days a week she sells second-hand clothes through TikTok Live. Due to this, he earns an extra amount of more than Rs 37 thousand every month. This money helps in meeting their daily bills, care of their pet dog and other needs.
27 year old Sherman Sam has also made his childhood interest a source of income. He buys and sells Pokémon cards. He bought a card for around Rs 1.5 lakh and later sold it for around Rs 15 lakh. With this additional income, they are able to save for the future, prepare to fulfill their dream of buying a house and also manage their daily expenses without much stress.
However, doing two tasks at a time is not easy. Due to continuous work, mental and physical pressure on the youth is increasing rapidly. According to the report of South China Morning Post, about 72% of Singapore’s working professionals are facing chronic burnout. This means that they are constantly feeling so tired that the body is working, but mentally they are completely exhausted. Sherman Sam also believes that this lifestyle is very challenging. Still, according to him, it is better to work a little harder today instead of facing difficulties in the future. The biggest thing is that no one has a complete answer to how AI will change the job market in the coming years.
