The court of Lord Nagchandreshwar is decorated on the third floor of the famous Jyotirlinga Mahakaleshwar temple of Ujjain. This temple is opened only once a year on the day of Nag Panchami and this is the specialty of this temple, which separates it from other temples. On the day of Nag Panchami, the doors of Nagchandreshwar temple are opened at exactly 12 o’clock in the night. After this, they are closed again at 12 midnight the next day.

It is believed that in the idol installed in this temple, Mahadev of Gods and Mother Parvati are seen sitting on a seven-headed serpent. It is said that such a rare statue is not seen anywhere else except this temple. According to mythology, Takshak, the king of serpents, performed very rigorous penance here to please Lord Shiva.

Takshak Nag is present in invisible form

Lord Shiva was very pleased with the penance of Takshak Nag and blessed him with immortality. After this, King Takshak started living here in the shelter of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Takshak Nag is present in this temple in an invisible form today and is worshiping Lord Shiva. To avoid any hindrance in their meditation, this temple remains closed throughout the year.
