The continuous resignations and voluntary retirement (VRS) of scientists and engineers in ISRO amidst many important space projects of India including Gaganyaan Mission has increased the concern of the government. It is being told that in the last 10 months, more than 100 scientists and technical staff have either resigned or taken VRS. In view of this, the Space Department has issued a new instruction.
The Space Department has issued new instructions on Tuesday (July 14). The Department of Space has further tightened the rules related to resignation and VRS of scientists working on Gaganyaan and other missions of national importance. Under which resignation or VRS will not be approved under the normal process. The final decision in every case will be taken by the Space Department.
To which centers was the memorandum issued?
According to the report, memorandum has been issued to centers like UR Rao Satellite Center (URSC) and Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC). In this memorandum, instructions were given not to accept the requests for resignation or voluntary retirement of Group ‘A’ scientific and technical employees under the normal procedure. All such cases will be sent to the Department of Space with the recommendation of the Director of the concerned centre, where the final decision will be taken. These employees are associated with India’s prestigious human space flight program ‘Gaganyaan’ and other ‘important missions’. This memorandum has been issued at a time when reports have come that more than 100 employees from various centers of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) across the country have left the space agency.
Impact on projects of national importance
The memorandum said that in recent times, it has been observed that Group ‘A’ scientists and technology staff of ISRO associated with the prestigious Gaganyaan and other important missions/projects have submitted requests for voluntary retirement and resignation, thereby seriously impacting the implementation of projects of national importance. The memorandum said that in view of this, it has been decided that the requests for voluntary retirement and resignation of scientific and technical staff associated with Gaganyaan and other important missions/projects should not be accepted under the normal procedure.
According to the memorandum, now such requests from scientists and technology staff, even at the level of Scientist and Engineer or below, will have to be sent to the Department of Space with ‘clear recommendations’ from their directors for final decision. ISRO’s centers which have received this memorandum include UR Rao Satellite Center (URSC) and Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC).
More than 100 people left ISRO
At least 100 to 120 scientists and employees have left ISRO in the last few months. It is being told that around 80 people have resigned from UR Rao Satellite Center (URSC) alone, while at least 20 employees have left from Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC). It is reported that the process is still going on in some more cases, hence this number may increase further.
