
Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has said that Nepal wants to resolve the border dispute with India through dialogue and diplomacy. He says that if both the countries sit and talk with open hearts, then no problem is so big that it cannot be solved. While talking to the media in New Delhi on Sunday, Khanal said that the current government of Nepal does not see India from the perspective of 21st century politics and global power struggle.
Khanal said that Nepal wants such a relationship with India which will develop both the countries and benefit the people. Khanal reached New Delhi on Friday on a three-day visit to India. During this, he met India’s Foreign Minister S. Met Jaishankar and discussed many important issues. His visit has taken place at a time when discussions are going on between the two countries regarding Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah’s recent statement regarding the border dispute.
We are children of the same river: Khanal
Nepal’s Foreign Minister said that the relationship between India and Nepal is not just between two neighboring countries. He said, we are not just neighbors on the map, but children of the same river. He said that there are centuries-old cultural, religious and social relations between the two countries.
Khanal also praised India’s economic and technological progress. He said that today India is among the fastest growing economies of the world and has also emerged as a major power in the field of technology. Nepal wants to work together with India which has become a symbol of development, innovation and new thinking.
What issues were discussed with Jaishankar?
Khanal said that the talks with Jaishankar included topics like trade, cross-border road and rail connectivity, energy cooperation, use of water resources and increasing people-to-people contacts. Nepal wants economic development and mutual cooperation to be the main basis of its relations with India.
The Foreign Minister said that digital cooperation between the two countries is also increasing. Under the agreement between NCHL of Nepal and NPCI of India, cross border digital payment system is now being started. With this, people of India and Nepal will get facility like UPI, which will make business, tourism and everyday transactions easier.

Khanal also informed that 72 health projects and 12 cultural reconstruction projects built in Nepal with the help of India after the 2015 earthquake have now been officially handed over to Nepal. Apart from this, cooperation between the two countries is also increasing in the field of digital public infrastructure and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In this regard, an agreement has been signed between Kathmandu University and Digital India Mission of India.
