After Mamata Banerjee’s defeat in the assembly elections, Trinamool Congress is on the verge of collapse. On Friday, Mamata Banerjee called a meeting of MLAs, MPs and party leaders amid rebellion in the party, but out of 80 Trinamool Congress MLAs, only eight MLAs and four MPs attended the meeting. At the same time, despite the dissatisfaction among the party leaders against Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee, the party expressed confidence in him.
at the party meeting Abhishek Banerjee K was again made the National General Secretary, although Dola Sen and Derek O’Brien will assist him and Mamata will remain the chairperson of the party. Chandrima Bhattacharya has been made the President of Trinamool West Bengal. Mala Roy was elected president of Mahila Trinamool Congress. At the same time, Sayani Ghosh has been made the President of Trinamool Youth Congress.
Priyanka Choudhary has been made the President of the Student Council and Malay Ghatak has been made the President of Trinamool Trade Union. Kunal Ghosh has been made the party’s state spokesperson and MP Kalyan Banerjee and Derek O’Brien have been made the national spokesperson.
Only 8 MLAs and six MPs reached the meeting
8 MLAs and 6 MPs reached Mamata Banerjee’s house for the party meeting. The MLAs included Bina Mandal, Ashima Patra, Madan Mitra, Kunal Ghosh, Firhad Hakim, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, Biman Banerjee and Ashok Kumar Deb, while the MPs included Dola Sen, Mala Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee, Derek O’Brien and Sudip Bandyopadhyay.
However, later in the statement issued by TMC it was said that this was a meeting of the National Working Committee of the party. Not all MPs and MLAs are its members. Many MPs like Mahua Moitra, Sushmita Dev, Mukul Sangma and Rajesh Tripathi, who are part of the National Working Committee, attended the meeting virtually.
After the meeting, MP Kalyan Banerjee said, “…we have decided that the post of Leader of Opposition appointed by the Speaker is illegal. We will go to court against it on Monday. We will file a petition in the High Court…”
He further said, “We will fight against the way BJP is killing TMC workers and filing false cases against them. We will fight on the streets as well as in the court.”
Mamta in action amid rebellion
Let us tell you that after the defeat in the assembly elections, rebellion has started in TMC. 58 MLAs have elected Ritabrata Banerjee as the leader of the opposition and the Speaker of the Assembly has also given him recognition. After the defeat, rebellion has started among the MPs on the lines of the MLAs. It is claimed that 20 TMC MPs may rebel. Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee has started damage control and has taken command of the party and reshuffled the party organization.
Party MLAs are raising their voice against Abhishek Banerjee, but Mamata kept Abhishek as the National General Secretary of the party. Political analysts say that by keeping Abhishek Banerjee in office even in difficult circumstances, Mamata Banerjee wants to prove once again that her own path is the right one.
However, along with Abhishek, Dola and Derek have also been made All India Joint General Secretaries. Kunal Ghosh says that the workload of our All India General Secretary is increasing a lot. Therefore, to help him, two more joint secretaries have been appointed from our National Working Committee.
