Mahayuti has got a big success before the elections of 17 seats of Local Authority Constituency of Maharashtra Legislative Council. Mahayuti candidates have been elected unopposed on six seats in the state. At the same time, the opposition has suffered a major setback due to the withdrawal of nominations of many candidates of Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA). Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) candidate Ravindra Phatak was elected unopposed from Thane Local Authority constituency.
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) candidate Abhijit Pawar withdrew his nomination, after which the path to Phatak’s victory was cleared. Aniket Tatkare of Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) was elected unopposed from Raigarh-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg seat. Tatkare’s unopposed victory was ensured after Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) candidate Bala Mane withdrew his nomination.
Sunil Tingre also withdrew the application
Vikram Kakade of NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) was elected unopposed from Pune seat. Shrikant Patil of Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) withdrew his nomination. Apart from this, rebel candidate Sunil Tingre also withdrew his application, which made Kakade’s path easier.
Arun Lakhani of Bharatiya Janata Party was elected unopposed from Chandrapur-Wardha-Gadchiroli constituency. Dushyant Chaturvedi of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) was also elected unopposed from Yavatmal seat. With these results, Mahayuti has captured 6 out of 17 seats even before the election contest. Political experts believe that Mahavikas Aghadi has suffered a major political blow due to withdrawal of nominations of opposition candidates, whereas Mahayuti has demonstrated its organizational strength and strong hold at the local level. Now all eyes are on the elections to be held on the remaining seats, where a direct contest can be seen between Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi.
