In Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, cases of missing and kidnapped minor girls are continuously increasing, which has become a cause for concern. The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has strongly reprimanded the police administration regarding this matter. Taking a strict stance, the court has sought a detailed explanation from the Police Commissioner on the entire matter. Besides, DCP East has been directed to review the pending cases and file a report within 3 days. Apart from this, it was also said that he should be personally present in the next hearing along with all the police station in-charges and investigators of his area.
The single bench of Justice Praveen Kumar Giri gave this order while hearing the habeas corpus petition filed by the father of a 12-year-old minor girl. It was told in the petition that the girl has been missing for the last four months and the police has not made any concrete progress till now. When no action was taken despite the complaint, the father approached the High Court.
Court expressed concern over missing girls
The court said that the cases of missing minor girls are continuously increasing in Lucknow, but the police action is not satisfactory. The bench gave clear instructions to DCP East to bring along the in-charges and investigators of all those police stations which have such pending cases. The court asked what steps were taken by the police despite the girl remaining missing for such a long time and why no results have been found till now. The next hearing of this case has been scheduled for June 10.
12 year old girl missing for four months
According to the petitioner, his 12 year old daughter went missing from home four months ago. The family immediately lodged a complaint at the police station, but due to the negligence of the police, no trace of the girl could be found till date. The family alleges that the police did not take the case seriously and the investigation was delayed.
The High Court considered this matter very serious and clearly said that the safety of minors is the primary responsibility of the police. The bench clearly said that if the police does not fulfill its responsibility then the court will have to intervene.
