ChatGPT Lockdown Mode: OpenAI has introduced a new lockdown mode to strengthen the security of ChatGPT users. This feature has been specially designed for those people and organizations who work with sensitive information and want to reduce the risk of data theft. According to the company, Lockdown Mode will help protect against prompt injection attacks, which have become a rapidly emerging threat to today’s AI systems. When this mode is turned on, ChatGPT’s access to the Internet and external services is limited to a great extent.
What is lockdown mode?
According to OpenAI, lockdown mode has been introduced to prevent sensitive data from falling into the wrong hands. Prompt injection is considered a major threat in the world of AI, in which attackers try to confuse AI models through instructions hidden in websites, emails, documents or other content. In many cases, this can expose sensitive information related to the chatbot user. The new lockdown mode has been designed to reduce this danger. However, the company has clarified that this feature does not completely prevent prompt injection, but significantly limits the final step in delivering data to the attacker. This reduces the risk of data exfiltration.
What will change due to lockdown mode
Once lockdown mode is activated, many popular features of ChatGPT will stop working or be limited. Live web browsing will be limited to cached content only, due to which the latest information will not be available all the time. Deep research and agent mode will be completely stopped. The code created in Canvas will not be able to access the internet and the facility to download external files will also be disabled. Apart from this, integrated agent experiences like finance and shopping will not be available. ChatGPT will also stop displaying images in general replies and the image generation feature will no longer be able to be used. However, it will not affect the settings related to memory, file upload, chat sharing and model training.
How to activate lockdown mode
OpenAI has said that the lockdown mode is being rolled out for ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, Pro and Self-Serve Business accounts. Once the feature is available, users can easily turn it on. For this, first of all you have to open ChatGPT app or website. After this you will have to go to Settings and open the Security section. Here lockdown mode will appear under the Advanced Security option. Users can activate it in one tap. The company says that this feature is not necessary for everyone, but for professionals, institutions and organizations working with sensitive data, it can prove to be an important layer of additional security.
