Today was the last date for nomination for 27 seats of Rajya Sabha and 17 seats of Legislative Council. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on June 9 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is June 11. Elections everywhere will be held till 4 pm on June 18 and counting of votes will also take place on the same day. Biennial elections are being held for 24 Rajya Sabha seats in ten states. Whereas, notification was issued for by-election on one Rajya Sabha seat each in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Odisha, hence elections will be held on a total of 27 Rajya Sabha seats.
BJP has fielded a total of 13 candidates in Rajya Sabha. Of these, 4 candidates have been fielded in Gujarat, 2 in Rajasthan, 3 in Madhya Pradesh, 1 in Karnataka, 1 in Manipur, 1 in Odisha, 1 in Arunachal Pradesh. If we talk about NDA, TDP has fielded candidates on 2 seats and Janasena on 1 seat in Andhra Pradesh. NCP’s Rajendra Jain has been made the candidate in the Rajya Sabha by-election for Maharashtra. That means, a total of 17 NDA candidates are taking part in the Rajya Sabha elections being held on 27 seats.
Will BJP take the votes of Congress MLAs on two seats?
Of these, there is a possibility of voting only on 2 seats in the states, while there is a possibility of unopposed elections in most of the places. Because BJP has fielded an extra candidate in Madhya Pradesh. To win its third candidate, BJP will have to take the support of 10 MLAs from the other party i.e. 10 MLAs of Congress. To win one seat in Madhya Pradesh, support of 58 MLAs is required which is not from BJP for the third seat. According to sources, to prevent divisions among its MLAs in MP, Congress may shift its MLAs to Telangana.
Parimal Nathwani increased the tension of Congress
Talking about Jharkhand, independent candidate Parimal Nathwani has given a blow to the ruling party. BJP is supporting Parimal Nathwani. BJP has 21 MLAs, 1 AJSU MLA and 1 LJP are supporting Ram Vilas and 1 JDU MLA Saryu Rai is supporting Nathwani, that is, a total of 24 MLAs are standing in favor of Nathwani, whereas the support of 28 MLAs is necessary to win the Rajya Sabha. The four MLAs that Nathwani needs to win can only be MLAs from the ruling party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha or Congress. India Bloc needs the support of 56 MLAs to win two Rajya Sabha seats in Jharkhand. If even one of them votes ahead then the difficulty will increase.
It is noteworthy that Parimal Nathwani has already been elected to Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand twice as an independent candidate. In both the previous Rajya Sabha elections, Nathwani has received the support of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Here on Saturday, Parimal Nathwani met the Chief Minister of the state Hemant Soren. In any case, it is not a good sign for Congress.
