
Even though there is still time for Kanwar Yatra, Delhi government has started preparations for the facilities of Shiva devotees. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has reconstituted the high level ‘Kanwar Committee’ to make the upcoming Kanwar Yatra historic, easy, full of devotion and safe. Delhi Government’s Culture and Law Minister Kapil Mishra has been appointed the Chairperson of this important committee, while five MLAs representing different areas of Delhi have been included as members.
The Chief Minister says that this time also the Delhi government will ensure respectable and better facilities for Shiva devotees. For this, special assistance will be given to Kanwar camps. All kinds of facilities will be provided to Shiva devotees in the camps.
Kapil Mishra will be the chairman of Kanwar Committee
According to CM Rekha Gupta, Kapil Mishra will be the chairman of the Kanwar committee, while MLAs Ajay Mahawar, Anil Sharma, Karnail Singh, Sanjay Goyal and Umang Bajaj have been included as members in the committee. He has said that Kanwar Yatra is not just a traditional religious event, but it is a huge festival of our rich cultural heritage, social harmony and public faith. He said that the flood of Shiva devotees thronging the streets of Delhi in the month of Sawan reflects the cultural unity of the country.
‘Shiv devotees should get better facilities’
The Chief Minister also said that Kanwar arrangements are no longer just a paper administrative work for the Delhi Government, but this entire system has become a unique symbol of service, reverence and respect in Delhi. He said that the main objective of the government is to ensure that every Shiva devotee (Kanwariya) who enters the borders of Delhi gets god-like respect and best facilities as a guest.
Main focus of the committee
Along with this, he also told that this newly formed committee under the leadership of Chairman Kapil Mishra will soon hold a review meeting with all the DMs of Delhi, senior officials of Delhi Police, Public Works Department, Health and related departments. He said that the main focus of the committee will be on route management, quality of waterproof tents, availability of medical facilities, 24-hour uninterrupted electricity and water supply and keeping the security tight, so that like last year, this time also the Yatra can be conducted without any hindrance and unprecedentedly.
374 Kanwar camps to be organized in 2025
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Delhi government had made unprecedented and historic arrangements to serve Shiva devotees as compared to previous years. While only 170 Kanwar camps were approved in the capital in the year 2024, in the year 2025, due to the easy approvals given by the government, a record increase was recorded and a total of 374 registered Kanwar camps were set up across Delhi.
old tender system abolished
He said that in order to run these camps smoothly, the government abolished the old tender system and provided transparent financial assistance ranging from Rs 50,000 to a maximum of Rs 11 lakh directly into bank accounts (through DBT), 50 percent of which was released as advance before the event. Apart from this, in order to reduce the financial burden on the committees, each registered camp was given free electricity up to 1,200 units by the Delhi Government and 75 percent rebate in the security deposit of temporary meter.
