Kakoli Ghosh’s son will return the gifts given by Mamata Banerjee, mother said- proud

June 15, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The politics of West Bengal has been in the headlines for a long time. After the change of power in the state, MLAs and MPs in Trinamool Congress (TMC) rebelled. The impact of this rebellion now seems to be reaching the families of the leaders. Dr. Baidyanath Ghosh, son of rebel party MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, has taken a big step. He has announced to return all the gifts received from Mamata Banerjee.

Dr. Baidyanath Ghosh said that he will return the gifts given to him and his wife by Mamata Banerjee. He cited recent events and personal conscience behind this. His decision is being seen as a symbol of the growing distance between the TMC leadership and the rebel camp. Apart from this, Baidyanath Ghosh also said that he will send a legal notice to Mamata Banerjee and many TMC MPs for some derogatory comments allegedly made against them.

Announcement to return the gifts given by Mamta

Baidyanath Ghosh has shared a post on social media, in which he has said, ‘I am returning the gold necklace given to my wife at the wedding and the kurta-pajama given to me by Mamata Banerjee during Durga Puja. I am grateful for this gesture, but due to recent events and personal conscience, it is appropriate to return them.

I am returning the gold necklace gifted to my wife at our wedding and the kurta-pyjama gifted to me during Durga Puja by @MamataOfficial.
I remain grateful for the gesture, but in view of recent events and as a matter of personal conscience, it is appropriate to return these gifts.

Mother supported her son’s decision

After Baidyanath’s announcement, his mother Kakoli Ghosh reshared his post on social media and supported his decision. Barasat MP wrote, ‘Proud of you and your wife’. Mamata Banerjee’s decision to return the gifts is being seen as a sign of the growing rift between the TMC leadership and the rebel camp.

ready to pay interest also

Talking to the media, Baidyanath said that Mamata Banerjee has been gifting him a traditional kurta-pajama set on every Durga Puja for the last 5-6 years. He said, ‘I will return all these sets to his residence in Kalighat. She also came to my wedding and gifted a gold necklace to my wife. I will return that also. Even if I have to pay interest for the two years that the necklace was with us, I am ready to pay that too. I don’t want anything from them.

Will send legal notice to TMC leaders

Apart from this, he expressed disappointment over the comments of many TMC MPs about him and his family. He announced that his lawyer will send a legal notice to Mamata Banerjee and three Trinamool MPs. He said, ‘We will send a legal notice to Mamata Banerjee and MPs Mahua Moitra, Kalyan Banerjee, Sonali Guha and Saugata Roy. We want the TMC chief and others to withdraw their statements.

According to Baidyanath, in a press conference about a month ago, Mamata Banerjee had accused Kakoli Ghosh of trying to break the party after her son was not given a ticket. He said, ‘Although she did not take my mother’s or my name, it was clear who she was talking about. We maintained silence out of courtesy. Later, Saugata Roy and Mahua Moitra also commented on the issue. He should publicly apologize and withdraw his statements. Otherwise, we will approach the High Court.

Big blow for TMC

This step of Baidyanath has come at a time when 20 TMC MPs under the leadership of Kakoli Ghosh have talked about merging with NCPI and supporting NDA. This is a big blow for TMC. On one hand, the numerical strength in the Parliament is decreasing, on the other hand, there is a strong reaction against the leadership even at the family level. Mamata Banerjee and TMC have not yet given an official response to Baidyanath’s allegations. But it is clear that the impact of the party’s internal crisis has now reached personal relationships and legal battles.
