The political controversy has deepened regarding the recent statements of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has now sent a legal notice of Rs 100 crore to CM Omar, accusing him of damaging the party’s image.
This controversy started after the statement in which Omar Abdullah had alleged that BJP is promising Rs 20 to 30 crore, ministerial posts and restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir to National Conference MLAs to topple his government. He termed it as part of “Operation Lotus”.
Give proof or else apologize publicly: BJP
On the other hand, BJP termed these allegations as completely baseless and defamatory. Demanding proof, the party said that Chief Minister Abdullah should either present concrete evidence in support of his allegations or publicly apologize unconditionally. The party says that if this does not happen, further legal action will be taken against him.
… otherwise we will take legal action: Sat Sharma
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma also expressed disappointment over the allegations of trying to buy MLAs. He demanded the Chief Minister to present evidence in support of his allegations and said that if he fails to do so, he should apologize publicly, otherwise he will have to face the law.
He said that Omar Abdullah is holding the highest constitutional post of Chief Minister, and it is extremely irresponsible for him to make such serious allegations against the country’s largest political party. He also said that the Chief Minister is making such statements to divert people’s attention from his government’s failures and inability to fulfill its election promises.
Why does BJP need to break them: State President
The BJP state president even said that there is no need to contact the National Conference MLAs. He also raised the question that when some MLAs of his party did not even attend the Deputy Chief Minister’s program, then what is the need for BJP to break them.
Sat Sharma on Saturday also demanded the Chief Minister to make public the names of the MLAs who it was claimed were bribed with Rs 20 to 30 crore. He said that merely making allegations will not suffice, but the Chief Minister will also have to provide concrete evidence for his claims.
He clarified that BJP has taken this matter seriously and the party has decided to initiate legal action. He told that talks have been held with his party’s legal team in this regard and a meeting of the legal team will also be held during the day, after which further strategy will be decided.
