The cases registered against the students involved in the violence at Jantar Mantar in Delhi have not been withdrawn yet. It is being told that the government has not yet given any order to Delhi Police to withdraw these cases. Police officials say that as soon as the government’s order is received, the legal process to withdraw the case will begin.
According to Delhi Police, around 20 cases have been registered in connection with the Jantar Mantar violence and related incidents. Of these, 14 cases are related to protests and violence. One case is of flying a drone without permission, while the remaining cases are related to attacks on journalists and policemen. Sources say that on receiving the government’s order, the prosecution (Delhi Police) will write a letter to the Lieutenant Governor (LG) requesting to withdraw the case and will tell that they do not want to take any further action. After this, LG’s approval will be taken.
Court will decide after LG’s approval
After getting the LG’s approval, the police will inform the concerned court that they do not want to take further action in these cases. After this the court will decide on further action. At the same time, the cases filed by journalists in relation to attacks on them will not be withdrawn. Only the cases registered by Delhi Police are to be withdrawn. To withdraw the cases filed by journalists, their consent is necessary.
