Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’, cabinet minister in Uttar Pradesh government, has suffered a major setback. The entire work of Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority i.e. UPEDA, the organization that oversees the construction of expressways and industrial corridors in the state, has now been taken back from them. It is being told that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will now himself look after the work of this department.
According to the information, the Secretariat Administration has said in an order issued on 27 May 2026 that all the work related to UPEDA is now being handed over to the Infrastructure Development Section. This department is directly with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The government has cited better coordination and speeding up work as the reason for this change.
Akhilesh taunted
Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has taken a dig at this decision of the government. While sharing a post on social media, he said, ‘It is now half time, if you do not get ticket in the assembly then it will be clear. When all the substandard expressways were built and the target of mutual transactions of corruption was achieved, then what was removed?’

‘BJP is going to change its candidates…’
Further he said, ‘I have heard that BJP is going to change its candidates on all the seats of Allahabad because BJP feels that all these MLAs and candidates were only busy in earning money and lost the Lok Sabha seat. The same formula is being applied on all those 43 Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh where the India Alliance had won and also on the remaining 9-10 seats where the BJP had won through certificates and not through vote manipulation.
‘There is no hope of him winning in front of PDA’
Akhilesh said, ‘This means that candidates will be changed on about 225 seats. By the way, it is heard that the present BJP MLAs themselves do not want to contest the elections because there is no hope left for them to win in front of Backward, Dalit, Minority (PDA). The original voters of BJP are no longer even one-fourth, hence the current MLAs of BJP do not want to spend their earnings in the lost elections, rather, they want to save the money for the rest of their life because they also know that this time BJP will go for sure and will never come again.
‘MLAs read the public’s anger’
The SP chief said, ‘Actually, the current BJP MLAs have read the public’s anger because of all kinds of problems that have arisen due to the mega-corrupt, dishonest and repressive policies of the BJP, such as broad daylight robbery, bullying, murder, land grabbing, bribery-commission, inflation, unemployment, atrocities on PDA, partisanship, injustice being done due to politics of religion, paper leaks, ignoring the Constitution. Due to our issue of reservation, playing with the future of the youth, increasing crimes against women, election rigging and theft of donations, the anger of the people has reached its boiling point.
Nand Gopal Gupta is the Industrial Development Minister.
Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi is the Industrial Development Minister in the Yogi government. He was also in charge of UPEDA for some time. Big projects like Ganga Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway and Gorakhpur Link Expressway are being constructed in the state through UPEDA. UPEDA looks after the land acquisition, tender process and similar work related to private investors for these projects.
What did the secretariat say in the order
According to the order of the Secretariat, now the work of all the expressway projects running under UPEDA will be given to the Infrastructure Development Section. It has been said in the order that earlier there was some contradiction in the distribution of work, to remove it, all the work related to UPEDA has been handed over to the Infrastructure Development Section with immediate effect. Simply put, now decisions related to building expressways will be taken directly from the department supervised by the Chief Minister’s Office. It is expected that this will speed up projects and improve coordination between various departments.
In the order issued by the government, it has been clearly stated that the Infrastructure Development Section has already been entrusted with the work of planning and coordination for the development of high-cost infrastructure facilities. The work of UPEDA also comes under this scope. In such a situation, there was delay due to distribution of work at two different places. Now, with all the work at one place, decisions will be taken faster.
