At WWDC 2026, Apple has introduced the new macOS 27 Golden Gate for its Mac computers. This update comes with new AI capabilities, smarter Siri, better performance and design improvements. The company has also improved the Liquid Glass interface. On top of that, macOS 27 is the first major Mac update that won’t support Intel-based Mac computers. However, users using Intel Mac will continue to get security updates for the next three years.
The era of Intel Mac is over
With macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple has completely moved its platform in the direction of Apple Silicon. The company had already made it clear that macOS Tahoe 26 would be the last major update for Intel-based Macs. Now macOS 27 will be available only on Mac devices with Apple Silicon. However, users using Intel Mac will continue to get security updates for the next three years. After this, new features, AI tools and all future major updates will be limited to Apple Silicon devices only. This move is part of Apple’s strategy under which it is focusing its entire Mac ecosystem on its own developed processors.
Liquid glass design got better
The liquid glass design introduced with macOS Tahoe last year has been made more useful in macOS 27. Many users complained that the excessive transparency made some interface elements difficult to read. Keeping this feedback in mind, Apple has now given users the option to control the intensity of transparency effects. Apart from this, the look of windows, menus and other interface parts has also been made more balanced and uniform. The company says that with these changes the system will feel cleaner, modern and easier to use than before.
Apple’s big bet on Siri and AI features
In macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple has made Apple Intelligence smarter. With the new update, Siri has got a new design and better features, which will make it smarter and more useful than before. The company has also added many new AI based tools and productivity features that will help in making everyday tasks easier. Apart from this, many technical improvements have been made inside the system, which will make Mac computers feel faster and more responsive than before. Apple says that Apple Silicon chips will play an important role in better running new features related to machine learning and AI. The update is being released for developers, while common users will get its stable version by the end of this year.
