
Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai made a big statement on religion and caste during an address program in Pollachi on Sunday (12 July). He said that there is no need to show and display religion every time. Speaking at the first anti-drug conference of his foundation ‘We the Leaders’ in Pollachi, he proudly described himself as a nationalist, Indian and Hindu.
Annamalai said that he is a proud Indian, nationalist and Hindu, but when he goes out of the house, he leaves his caste and religion behind. He said that a true Hindu treats everyone equally and does not talk in a way that makes someone look superior and someone inferior. He said that ‘he will say that everyone has to walk together in a straight line’.
This is the first major conference organized by ‘We the Leaders’
Organized by Annamalai’s foundation ‘We the Leaders’, this conference was organized under the name of ‘Drug Free Pollachi Awareness Conference’ under the ‘Drug Free Tamil Nadu’ campaign. This is the first major conference organized by ‘We the Leaders’ after the organization was founded by Annamalai.
‘We the Leaders’ will contest elections in 2031
Annamalai had resigned from BJP last month and announced the formation of his new political party. After his resignation, Annamalai had announced a new political movement, which later developed into a party and will participate in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections to be held after five years. In Pollachi he reiterated that ‘We the Leaders’ will now transform into a political party. He said that this change will happen at the right time. The next assembly elections in Tamil Nadu are to be held after 5 years i.e. in 2031 and his party will contest it.
‘Important role of youth in change of power’
In his address on Sunday, Annamalai said that people below 39 years of age played an important role in the change of power in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. In this election, actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party TVK won the assembly elections for the first time. He claimed that the youth will also bring a “huge change of power” in the 2031 assembly elections. Annamalai said that he has not invited anyone to join the ‘We the Leaders’ movement.

Annamalai said, ‘I am one of you, part of the ‘We the Leaders’ movement. We should plan to plant 50 lakh trees in the next six months. He also shared the figures of the movement. Annamalai said that 17 percent of the people associated with this movement are women. 14 percent people are in the age group of 18-25 years and 54 percent people are below 35 years of age. He said that the focus of the organization will be on de-addiction, environment and youth leadership. He said that Gen Z had brought change in the 2026 elections and now they will bring change in 2031 also.
