Before the end of the 60-day deadline between America and Iran, US President Donald Trump has given a big statement. He clearly said that the frozen Iranian assets will not be released until there is a peace agreement with Iran. Trump said in an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press” that he would not unfreeze Iran’s assets or lift any sanctions before a peace deal was reached.
Trump said that he will think about these steps after the agreement is reached. “It will happen later,” he said. “Yes, if they behave well, if they do a good job, we will start talking.” Trump also said he is not demanding that Lebanon be part of a short-term deal with Tehran. “I think they would like to see it, but I’m not demanding it,” Trump said in a recorded interview on Friday.
American and Israeli forces launched attacks on Iran on 28 February. The Trump administration has been trying to negotiate a possible peace deal for weeks.
We are very close to a deal…Trump
“We are very close to a deal, otherwise I will blow them completely,” Trump told NBC News. The president also said he was ready to talk to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not been seen in public since he was injured in US strikes at the beginning of the fighting.
“I don’t want to say whether I know where he is or not, but there’s a good chance that I do,” Trump said. Top Trump administration officials, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, say a temporary ceasefire agreement remains in place despite recent US attacks on Iran and told lawmakers last week that these were defensive measures.
