IND vs ENG: It is not easy for Team India to win the series, 22 years of drought will have to be ended at Lord’s

July 18, 2026 by Uma Shankar

IND vs ENG 3rd ODI Lords: The 3-match ODI series between India and England currently stands at an exciting tie of 1-1. The third and last match of the series is to be played at the historic Lord’s ground, which is called the Mecca of cricket. In this match, Team India will have the challenge of changing an old history which has been a stigma on the face of Indian cricket for the last two decades. In fact, if the Indian team wants to capture this ODI series on English soil, then it will have to end its 22-year-old drought at Lord’s.

Team India has been yearning for the home of cricket for 22 years.

Lord’s ground is known for Indian cricket fans for its golden memories like the 1983 World Cup title win and the 2002 NatWest Trophy final. But the bitter truth is that since 2004, Team India has not been successful in winning even a single ODI match against England on this ground. India recorded its last ODI win at Lord’s on 5 September 2004, when under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, India defeated England by 23 runs. 22 years have passed since that historic victory, but Team India has not been able to taste victory here again.

Painful tales of last 4 matches

India’s performance in the last four ODI matches played at Lord’s has been very disappointing, which is enough to increase the concern of Team India. In 2007, England defeated India by 7 wickets. At the same time, the match played between the two teams in 2011 was a tie at an exciting turn. Then in 2018, the host England team won the match by a huge margin of 86 runs, forcing the Indian batting to surrender. Last time in the last match played on this ground in 2022, the Indian team had to face a shameful defeat of 100 runs.

Gill Brigade has a golden opportunity to change history

Statistics bear witness to the fact that the England team has always dominated India at Lord’s. In such a situation, it will be a big challenge for captain Shubman Gill to end this 22-year-old drought in the last ODI match. If the Indian team has to lift the series trophy in its hands on Sunday, then both the batsmen and bowlers will have to give their best performance to penetrate this impenetrable fortress of Lord’s.
