Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind President Arshad Madani said that Congress was not formed for the independence of the country. Its main objective was to stop the growing Hindu-Muslim rift. He said that Congress adopted the agenda of independence under the pressure of the people fighting for the martyrs of the 1857 revolution and other wars. When there was no political party, the Ulemas of Deoband had formed an organization against the British. Madani appealed to suppress the voice of sectarianism (communalism).
He said that the entire country should work unitedly for progress. He said that we have been living here for 1300 years, the current environment has weakened the relations between Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Christians. We do not contest elections, nor do we contest them, but this atmosphere will also end.
‘The country cannot run on hatred’
Some time ago, Madani has strongly criticized the “bulldozer action” taken against madrassas and mosques in many states. He said that the country cannot be run on the basis of hatred and fear. He said that governments keep coming and going, but justice and humanity should always remain intact. Madani said, “No country can run on the basis of hatred for long. The country runs on love, kindness and justice, not on hatred. Governments keep coming and going, but the real power is in the hands of Allah, Om and God only.”
He said, “Our elders helped liberate this country. Today the very signs of their legacy are being erased.” He described Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind as not just an organization but “a golden chapter in the history of India’s freedom movement”. Madani said many religious scholars fought British rule, served jail sentences and even kissed the gallows, but “never apologised”.
Referring to Sheikhul Hind Maulana Mahmudul Hasan, he said that this famous scholar had declared British slavery illegal and refused to accept their subjugation.
