For Team India, it is one thing to fulfill the dream of Test debut and it is another thing to leave your mark in that debut match. Only a few are successful in this and 23 year old young spin all-rounder Manav Suthar can be included in this. Suthar, who made his debut in the only Test match between India and Afghanistan, did not take much time to make an impression when he got his first opportunity. As soon as he got a chance to bowl against Afghanistan, Suthar stole the show by taking a wicket on his fourth ball.
Rajasthan spin-allrounder Manav Suthar was handed his Test cap on the first day of the Test match being held in Mullanpur. On the first day of the match, he did not get to do anything because Team India was batting first. But the next day he got a chance to showcase his talent on both the batting and bowling fronts. First let’s talk about their bowling because captain Shubman Gill’s surprising decision also played an important role in their success.
Gill’s decision, Suthar’s success
In fact, in the second session of the second day, Team India had declared its first innings on the score of 564 runs. After this, when Afghanistan started batting, the pace attack of Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna could not do much in the first 5 overs, rather the Afghan batsmen quickly scored 28 runs. In such a situation, there was going to be a tea break and before that there was time to get only one over. In such a situation, Captain Gill, playing a gamble, removed Prasidh and inserted a spinner.

But Gill did not give this responsibility to senior spinner Kuldeep Yadav or Washington Sundar, but gave it to Manav Suthar, who received the Test cap from Kuldeep. Captain Gill surprised by expressing confidence in this left arm spinner. After his first three balls were hit, there were so many turns outside, which put the batsman Abdul Malik in tension. Malik made a mistake here because he wanted to let the over go to maiden and then return to bat in the next session but he played a slog sweep and in this round was caught at short fine leg. Siraj made no mistake in taking the catch and Suthar took the first wicket of his career.
Suthar did wonders in batting too
Now let’s talk about batting. Before bowling, Suthar got a chance to bat and this left-handed batsman did not disappoint here too. After the fall of Pant’s wicket in the first session, Suthar entered the crease. By this time the team’s score was 456 runs and then Suthar played an inning of 28 runs and made a partnership of 54 runs with Washington Sundar, taking the team beyond 500 runs. Suthar hit 2 fours and 2 sixes in his innings.
