June 7, 2026 by Uma Shankar

IND vs AFG Test, DAY-2: The second day of the Test match being played between India and Afghanistan was also completely in the name of the Indian team. Batting first, Team India made a huge score of 564 runs in the first innings at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh. In reply, the Afghanistan team, which came to bat, looked completely helpless in front of the Indian bowling. Especially the young spinner Manav Suthar, who was playing his first Test, broke the back of the visiting team with his magical spin.

Team India scored 564 runs

The Indian team started the second day playing ahead by 368 runs. During this, Rishabh Pant played a brilliant inning of 81 runs. At the same time, Washington Sundar also managed to score unbeaten 52 runs. Whereas, Manav Suthar contributed 28 runs. Mohammad Siraj also scored 22 runs in 12 balls, due to which the Indian team declared the innings after scoring 564 runs at the loss of 8 wickets. On the other hand, Mohammad Salim took maximum 6 wickets from Afghanistan. Ziaur Rehman and Hashmatullah Shahidi also got 1 success each.

Manav Suthar shines on debut

In response to the huge score of 564 runs, the Afghanistan team had a very bad start. Indian bowlers kept pressure on them from the beginning. But the real attraction of the match was left arm spinner Manav Suthar, who was playing his debut match. He took excellent advantage of the turn available on the Mullanpur pitch and did not give any chance to the Afghan batsmen to stay on the crease. By the end of the day’s play, Afghanistan lost 5 wickets for 113 runs.

Manav Suthar spent only 21 runs in 15.5 overs and got 3 successes. Abdul Malik was his debut wicket, after which Manav Suthar also showed the way to the pavilion to Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Afsar Zazai. Apart from him, the famous Krishna also appeared to be in very good form. He took 2 wickets for 27 runs in 7 overs. In such a situation, the third day of the game is going to be very exciting. The threat of follow-on is looming over Afghanistan. To avoid follow-on, he has to score at least 364 runs in the first innings, which seems difficult at the moment.
