Surat Slum Demolition: More than 100 slums were demolished in Ved Darwaza area of Surat. But no one has yet taken responsibility as to who demolished it. No government department is ready to tell why bulldozers were used on these slums and who got them done? On 28th of last month, 100 slums were demolished in the presence of police.
At the same time, Hussain Aziz Shaikh, now living in this colony, filed a petition in the Gujarat High Court on Monday. He alleged that legal rules were not followed before demolishing these slums. He demanded from the court to immediately stop this campaign of demolishing slums. He said that this action was taken without giving any notice.
No department is taking responsibility for this
According to the report of Indian Express, the biggest thing in this whole matter is that no department is taking responsibility for this sabotage. Surat Municipal Corporation said that it had no role in this while the police put the entire blame on the Municipal Corporation. At the same time, local BJP MLA Vinu Moradia said on Monday that there is something wrong in this. It is being alleged that this demolition was done without any notice or prescribed legal procedure. Questions are being raised on the role of the police but they are putting the entire blame on the Municipal Corporation.
Municipal Corporation and Police are blaming each other
On the other hand, the Municipal Corporation has clearly denied that they had not given any order to demolish the house. Corporation Commissioner N Nagarajan said on Monday that our officers had gone there only to measure (demarcate) the road and not to carry out demolition. He also said that this land is privately owned and a part of the plot has been allotted for road construction under the town planning scheme. Our job is to first demarcate and then carry out demolition after a few days. This destruction was not done by us.
Who drove the bulldozer in the presence of police?
But the people living there say that in the presence of Surat Municipal Corporation officials and policemen, bulldozers came and demolished their houses. Usually, the work of removing illegal constructions is done by the Municipal Corporation, but the Municipal Corporation clearly refused that they have no involvement in this action. The local BJP MLA Vinu Moradia also accepted that there is something wrong in this matter, because when the Municipal Corporation did not take action then who demolished these slums.
The petitioner made five parties defendants.
In this case, petitioner Hussain Aziz has made five parties defendants. Those who have been made defendants include Gujarat Government, Surat Municipal Corporation, Surat Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Special Operation Group. The petitioner said that houses of slum dwellers are being demolished, but no agency of the administration is taking responsibility for it. Against this, he has approached the High Court to save his house and get justice.
