If you are fond of making reels and taking selfies, then think 100 times before doing anything like this at the airport even by mistake. Many people think of making a travel vlog, Instagram reels or YouTube short videos at the airport? If you also have a similar thought in your mind, then remove this thought because the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has made strict rules against photography and videography. This step has been taken at a time when the trend of creating social media content during travel is increasing among passengers. Under the new guidelines, passengers who break the rules may be fined, have their phones confiscated and, in severe cases, may even be banned from entering flights.
What has DGCA changed?
According to a Times of India report, the aviation regulator has banned passengers and visitors from taking photos and videos without permission in many restricted areas of the airport. If any passenger commits the mistake of taking photos or videos in these security checkpoints, boarding gates, runway buses, aircraft handling zones, airport aprons and other sensitive operational areas, action will be taken.
Officials say that its purpose is to prevent security arrangements, surveillance systems and airport operations from being recorded and shared online. In serious cases, airport authorities may recommend adding the passenger’s name to the DGCA no-fly list and, depending on the nature of the violation, this may lead to a temporary or permanent ban from flying.
Why did DGCA take action?
Airport officials say that this decision has been taken after the rapid increase in the creation of social media content inside the airport premises. Travel reels, vlogs and behind-the-scenes videos are becoming increasingly popular. However, some of these uploads have inadvertently exposed security infrastructure, staff operations and surveillance arrangements. The content may not be harmful, but there can be a security risk if sensitive information is publicly accessible.
