Help to Gulf countries from Iran’s seized assets? US’s new plan to compensate for the loss

June 7, 2026 by Uma Shankar

America is working on a new economic strategy against Iran. According to a CBS News report, the US Treasury Department wants to use Iran’s seized assets to help the Gulf countries that have suffered losses during the current conflict.

According to the report, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant has directed officials to examine all legal and administrative options through which Iran’s seized assets can be used for repair and reconstruction. America believes that Iran should also pay the economic price for the damage it has caused to the countries.

Asked for details of losses from Gulf countries

For this purpose, the Treasury Department has asked the Gulf countries to provide complete details of the losses caused by wars and attacks. America wants to know how much it will cost to repair roads, buildings, energy infrastructure and other facilities. It has not yet been decided which Iranian assets will be used. These may include frozen bank accounts abroad, cash or other assets such as oil tankers.

This plan has come to light at a time when indirect peace talks are also going on between America and Iran. Iran has been continuously saying that for any agreement, the sanctions imposed on it will have to be removed and billions of dollars of Iranian funds stuck abroad will have to be released. According to the report, Iran has also demanded to release frozen assets worth about $24 billion.

Iran’s attacks on Gulf countries continue

Iran has carried out drone and missile attacks on many Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman. Tension escalated further on Saturday when the US military attacked Iranian radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz. According to the US Army, earlier it had shot down some Iranian drones, which were posing a threat to sea vessels.

In response, Iran fired missiles at US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. Kuwait reported that 7 ballistic missiles passed over populated areas, causing some property damage, although no people were injured. Bahrain also sounded sirens and advised people to go to safe places.
