The ongoing tension in the Middle East has now reached a very dangerous point. On June 10, 2026, the US Navy took a major military action against Iran and fired several Tomahawk cruise missiles. According to the US Central Command, this attack was carried out by the US Navy’s most modern guided missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG-112). The Pentagon has called this entire action a step taken in ‘self-defense’.
Precise strikes on surveillance systems and air defense sites
According to the official statement issued by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), teams from the US Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy took part in this joint operation. The American army entered Iran and destroyed many of its sensitive military infrastructures. The main targets of these attacks were:
* Advanced Surveillance System of Iranian Army
*Military Communication Network
* Iran’s main air defense bases
CENTCOM said, “Iran has been continuously carrying out aggressive attacks on international merchant ships and American troops in this area for the past several days. These targets had become a major threat to maritime security, in response to which this action has been taken on the instructions of the President.”
Deadly ‘smart weapons’ used in the attack
The biggest feature of this military action was the Precision Guided Munitions (PGMs) used in it, i.e. smart bombs and missiles with very precise targeting. Apart from Tomahawk missile, American fighter planes (F-35 and F-15E) bombarded Iran with JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) and Paveway laser guided bombs.
These are such modern weapons that even in bad weather or darkness of night, they can destroy the target with an accuracy of only 5 to 10 meters by dodging the enemy radar. Due to this, only the military bases were directly demolished without causing any damage to the residential areas.
Strength of warship ‘USS Michael Murphy’
The warship from which Tomahawk missiles were fired is an Arleigh Burke-class (Flight IIA) destroyer of the US Navy. Named after Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy (Medal of Honor winner), this 9,200 ton ship is equipped with Aegis Combat System, making it one of the safest and most lethal ships in the world. Its Mk 41 Vertical Launch System (VLS) has a total of 96 missile cells, which are capable of firing long-range Tomahawk missiles in the blink of an eye.
What next?
At present, there has been no official statement or news of retaliation from Iran after this devastating attack. However, defense experts believe that after this action in the Persian Gulf, the risk of a full-scale war between the two countries has increased significantly. The US Army has made it clear that its soldiers are fully deployed in ‘alert and lethal’ mode to deal with any situation.
