The eyes of lakhs of central government employees are fixed on the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission. It is believed that in the new pay commission, not only the basic salary will increase, but the allowances related to it will also increase. The most important among these is House Rent Allowance (HRA), which is decided on the basis of the basic salary of the employee. How much HRA is available at present?
Under the 7th Pay Commission, HRA is given according to the category of cities. Currently, 30% HRA is available in X category (metro) cities, 20% in Y category cities and 10% in Z category cities. Initially these rates were 27%, 18% and 9% respectively, but after Dearness Allowance (DA) became 50% in January 2024, they were increased to 30%, 20% and 10%. The revised basic salary of a level-5 employee with a basic salary of Rs 29,200 can reach Rs 75,040. In this situation, HRA can be around Rs 22,510 per month in X category cities, Rs 15,010 in Y category and Rs 7,500 in Z category. However, it will entirely depend on which fitment factor is approved by the government.
