June 5, 2026 by Uma Shankar

France is going to host the G7 summit from 15 to 17 June. This conference will be held in the French city of Evian-les-Bains, which is located on the banks of Lake Geneva and very close to the border of Switzerland. For this reason, Switzerland has decided to deploy about 4,000 soldiers within its borders.

Swiss Army said that many big leaders, officers and delegations of the world will be present in this area during the conference. In such a situation, it is necessary to strengthen the security system. Apart from this, the officials are also afraid of demonstrations and protests. Therefore the army has been included in the security operation. Vaud, Geneva and Valais cantons of Switzerland will be directly affected by this event.

What responsibility did the soldiers get?

The Swiss government and Parliament have jointly decided that the army will help the local administration and security agencies. The 4,000 soldiers to be deployed will handle many important responsibilities. These include security of Geneva International Airport, monitoring of border areas, security of major road-rail routes and keeping an eye on Lake Geneva. Soldiers will also protect important government and public infrastructure.

Switzerland’s Air Force will also implement special security arrangements during this period. Airspace restrictions will be imposed in some areas from June 10 to June 19. The Air Force will also deploy special counter-drone systems for protection from drone attacks. Apart from this, special security arrangements have also been made to deal with nuclear, biological and chemical threats.

G7 summit in France after 7 years

This will be the 52nd summit of G7. Earlier, France had hosted the G7 in Biarritz in 2019. Evian-le-Bain hosted the G8 conference in 2003. After about 23 years, this city is again going to become a major center of global diplomacy.

G7 is a group of seven developed economies of the world. This includes America, France, Germany, Britain, Italy, Japan and Canada. The European Union (EU) also participates in the meetings of this group. This forum has been created to discuss the major challenges related to economic, political and security of the world.

PM Modi will also attend the summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also attend the G7 summit on the invitation of France. US President Donald Trump will attend. He has said that after the UFC Championship event to be held at the White House, he will go straight to France. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also going to attend as a special guest. Artificial Intelligence (AI) will also be a major topic in the summit. Many big names in the technology sector, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, are expected to attend.
