Krishnakumar, who has been buying lottery for years, did not even spend any money for the ticket that made him a millionaire this time. The free ticket received under a promotional offer made him the owner of about Rs 52 crore.
43-year-old Krishnakumar has been living in Bahrain for the last 23 years. After completing his studies in hotel management, he went abroad in search of better opportunities. In the initial days he worked, but later started his own restaurant business. However, the path to business has not always been easy. Many times he also had to face financial challenges and difficult situations.
How much did you get as a reward?
Amidst these struggles, he started participating in the Abu Dhabi Big Ticket Lottery with the hope of achieving something big in the future. He was buying tickets every month for the last seven years. He did not stop this trend even during the Corona epidemic. After the pandemic, the condition of his business improved, but the habit of buying lotteries remained.
Luck finally favored him this year. His ticket was declared the winner in the Abu Dhabi Big Ticket draw held on June 4 and he got the jackpot of 2 crore dirhams, which is approximately Rs 52 crore in Indian currency. Interestingly, he got this ticket for free under a special promotional scheme.
At that time Krishnakumar had come to Kerala for holidays with his family. After reaching India on May 25, he had not kept his Bahraini mobile number active because it was not on roaming. When lottery organizers called him to inform him about his win, he could not be reached. Later the organizers sent a message to his Indian number through WhatsApp. Only then did he get information about this big victory.
What will you do with this money?
Initially he could not believe this news. Winning such a huge amount was like a dream come true for him. All the family members are very happy. Especially his wife and sister, who played an important role in choosing the ticket number. Krishnakumar says that even today he finds all this to be no less than a miracle.
The most special thing about this victory is that this time he did not share the ticket with any friend or group. Usually, he used to buy tickets along with his friends, but this time the ticket was in his name only. Therefore only they will get the entire prize money.
Despite getting such a huge reward, Krishnakumar’s first concern is not about himself. His attention is towards his close friend and business partner, who has been in a coma for the last three months. He suffered a serious head injury after falling down the stairs and since then his condition remains critical. Krishnakumar says that first of all he wants to provide better medical facilities to his friend. If possible, he will also be brought to India for treatment. His friend is originally from Kodagu district of Karnataka.
As far as the use of the remaining prize money is concerned, Krishnakumar has not taken any final decision yet. He says that he will sit with his family and think carefully about his future. At present his priority is to ensure the well-being of his family and friends.
