FIFA World Cup 2026: The countdown for FIFA World Cup 2026 has started, the tournament is going to start from June 11. But a big crisis has arisen in front of the Iranian football team regarding visa. The Iranian team has not yet received the US visa. Iranian Football Federation (FFI) President Mehdi Taj said that on the instructions of FIFA, Iran has handed over the passports of its national football team members to the US Embassy located in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Now the team is eagerly waiting to get the visa from America.
Iranian team awaits US visa
While talking to Iranian state television, Federation President Mehdi Taj said that FIFA itself had demanded him to hand over his passport to the US Embassy in Ankara, after which this step was taken. Mehdi Taj said, ‘We are waiting for the next two days to see whether the national team members are issued US visas or not.’ He expressed hope that the entire team will get visas, but at the same time he has also informed FIFA about his concerns to deal with any untoward incident.
Taking a tough stand on this issue, the Iranian Federation has made it clear to FIFA that if some of their players or delegation members are denied US visas, they will not remain silent. The federation said that in such a situation they will consider other options. However, he did not clarify what steps he could take.
The team will have base camp in Mexico
The players of the Iranian team have already received visas for Mexico. The team’s base camp will be in the Mexican city of Tijuana during the World Cup. The interesting thing is that America, Canada and Mexico are jointly hosting the World Cup 2026. Even though the Iran team will stay in Mexico, all its three matches in Group G are to be played in America. Because of this, the team will have to travel from Mexico to America to play every match, for which it is very important to have an American visa.
Iran match schedule in USA
The Iranian team will play its first match in this tournament against New Zealand on 16 June. Then on June 21, it will face the Belgian team. At the same time, on June 26, it will face the Egyptian team. Amid visa disputes, the Iranian football team is continuously sweating to present a strong claim in the World Cup.
