Farmers should be patient and communicate… Government gave assurance on moong purchase and other demands

Amidst the ongoing agitation of farmers in Madhya Pradesh regarding various demands including the purchase of moong, Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kansana met the farmer representatives and listened seriously to their problems. The Agriculture Minister assured the farmers that the government is sensitive towards their legitimate demands and necessary action will be taken to resolve all the issues quickly and positively.

Agriculture Minister Kansana said that the state government is committed to protecting the interests of farmers. He has instructed the officials that the problems of the farmers should be resolved on priority basis and necessary steps should be taken on other issues including moong procurement.

Appeal to farmers to maintain peace

Agriculture Minister Kansana Appealing to the farmers to maintain peace and find solutions through dialogue, he said that the government and farmers are each other’s allies. The objective of the government is to provide fair price to the farmers for their produce and to protect them from any kind of inconvenience.

During the meeting held in the Ministry, the farmer representatives put forward their demands and problems in detail, on which the Agriculture Minister assured to seriously consider all the points and take a decision soon in coordination with the concerned departments.

The Agriculture Minister expressed confidence that through mutual dialogue and positive efforts, the problems of the farmers will be resolved soon and the procurement system in the state will be made more effective and smooth. During this, Secretary Agriculture Nishant Barbade and officials of the Agriculture Department and representatives of farmer organizations were present.

Request to the Center to increase the target of moong procurement

After discussion with the farmers, Agriculture Minister Kansana has written a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan requesting him to increase the target of summer moong procurement. He has said in the letter that the area of ​​summer moong in the state is about 14.30 lakh hectares. According to the final estimate of last year/third advance estimate of this year, the productivity of summer moong in the state is 1410 kg. Grams per hectare.

Thus, the total production of the state is possible at 20.16 lakh metric tonnes. 4.19 lakh rupees by the Central Government last year. Tonnes target was given, against which a total of 7.72 lakh tonnes of summer moong was produced in the state. Tons were procured.

To ensure that farmers get better prices and that farmers remain interested in pulses production in future also, it is necessary to give them maximum benefit of Minimum Support Price, which will not be possible within the target limit given by the Central Government.

In the marketing year 2026-27, under the price support scheme of the Government of India, the target of 40 percent of the total production of the state, a target of 8.06 lakh metric tons, should be increased by increasing the target limit by increasing the percentage of savings of other summer moong producing states to the state out of the target set at the national level.
