When is Sawan 2026: The holy month of Saavan is going to start from 30th July 2026. In this month dedicated to Lord Shiva, devotees offer water to Shivalinga, offer Belpatra and seek blessings of Bholenath by worshiping him. But do you know that there are some holy places associated with Lord Shiva in the country and the world, reaching where performing Jalabhishek of Mahadev is considered no less than a difficult penance? At some places it is not possible to reach the main peak, hence devotees offer water while meditating on Lord Shiva from a distance. Mount Kailash, Tibet

Therefore, devotees meditate on Lord Shiva by facing Kailash or mentally perform Jalabhishek of Mahadev by offering water from a distance. In this way, the method of worship here is quite different from the normal Shiva temples.

Adi Kailash, Uttarakhand

Adi Kailash, located in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, is also called Chhota Kailash. According to religious belief, this place is associated with Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. The holy Parvati Sarovar located here is also considered to have special significance. Devotees visit this holy lake and dedicate its water to Lord Shiva with faith. There is no tradition of offering water to the main peak of Adi Kailash like a normal temple. Here also the devotees offer Arghya facing Kailash from a distance and mentally perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva.

Manimahesh Kailash, Himachal Pradesh

Manimahesh Kailash, located in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, is considered one of the main holy places of Lord Shiva. According to religious belief, this place is related to Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. Manimahesh Lake located here is also a center of special faith for the devotees. The peak of Manimahesh mountain is seen to be associated with the form of Lord Shiva. Devotees visit and bathe in the lake during the Manimahesh Yatra. After this, the sacred water of the lake is offered to Lord Shiva with reverence and facing Manimahesh Kailash. But devotees offer water to the Shiva statues and places of worship around the lake and also offer prayers.

Kinner Kailash, Himachal Pradesh

Kinnar Kailash situated in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh is also included in the major holy places of Lord Shiva. The natural Shivalinga situated here is a center of special faith for the devotees. According to religious beliefs, Kinnar Kailash area is considered to be related to Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. According to another belief, Arjuna’s receipt of Pashupatastra from Lord Shiva during the Mahabharata period is also told in the story related to this area. After reaching a high altitude, devotees take darshan of the natural Shivalinga and offer water, flowers and other puja materials as per their devotion. The devotees who reach here perform Jalabhishek of Shivalinga and also perform aarti and worship.

Shrikhand Mahadev, Himachal Pradesh

Shrikhand Mahadev, located in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, is counted among the most difficult pilgrimage sites of Lord Shiva. To reach here, devotees have to undertake a very difficult and long hilly journey. The altitude, icy roads and steep climbs make this journey quite challenging. Here a huge natural rock formation is worshiped as the form of Lord Shiva. According to the belief, the devotees who visit Shrikhand Mahadev after completing the difficult journey, reach the top with water from natural water sources and offer it to the form of Shiva as per their devotion.
