All political parties have started working on their respective strategies for the 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. National President of Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav is also continuously busy in strengthening the organization, creating new social equations and creating an atmosphere against BJP. SP is trying to return to power in 2027 after the defeat in 2017 and 2022. But the biggest challenge amid its preparations is the increasing mutual tussle within the SP.
Samajwadi Party The tussle between the leaders is not a new thing, but it has come to the fore in recent times. In western Uttar Pradesh, the dispute between Moradabad MP Ruchi Veera, former MP ST Hasan and SP MLA Kamal Akhtar has been in the news continuously. From rhetoric to organizational differences between them, this matter has become public many times. Now the same picture has started appearing in Purvanchal also. The differences between the MP from Machhilishahr Lok Sabha seat Priya Saroj and SP MLA from Machhilishahr Assembly seat Ragini Sonkar have been continuously discussed in political circles.
Why is there sourness in the relationship between Priya Saroj and Ragini Sonkar?
The news of differences between Priya Saroj and Ragini Sonkar remained in the headlines during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Ragini Sonkar was also not seen in Priya Saroj’s nomination, whereas she is SP MLA from Machhilishahr assembly seat.
It was also discussed that Ragini Sonkar was not very active in Priya Saroj’s election campaign. Apart from this, very few photographs of the two women SP leaders have appeared in party programs and public forums. At the same time, Ragini Sonkar had even said in 2025 that she wants to contest Lok Sabha elections from Machhilishahr. In such a situation, the respective political ambitions of both the leaders are being considered as the reason for the sourness between them. The latest picture was seen during the ongoing ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
In fact, Samajwadi Party also participated in the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Dimple Yadav herself reached there, accompanied by Ragini Sonkar. But Priya Saroj had already come via Jantar Mantar before this. That means both leaders Priya Saroj and Ragini Sonkar reached there, but on different days. Now people are linking it to the discussions about the long-running differences between the two leaders.
Can SP’s strategy be weakened due to internal strife?
Seeing the way the differences between the leaders in the Samajwadi Party are becoming public, it may affect both the morale of the workers and the election strategy in the upcoming assembly elections. Because the biggest strength of any organization is its unity. If the lack of coordination among leaders from Western Uttar Pradesh to Purvanchal continues, it may become more difficult for SP to achieve the goal of returning to power in 2027.
