Do you want to be an ambassador? Nepal government asked for applications from common citizens

The Government of Nepal has invited applications from citizens who wish to become ambassadors. Nepal’s Foreign Ministry has issued a notice for this. Besides, a seven-page document has also been issued, in which the necessary qualifications and rules for the post of ambassador have been mentioned.

The person applying must be at least a graduate. There should be no criminal case or punishment against him. Besides, he should also have knowledge of a foreign language. The candidate will also have to explain in an application form why he is eligible for the post and what work he will do if he gets the opportunity.

Preference for post graduate candidates

Preference will be given to post graduate candidates. Those who study in subjects like International Relations, Political Science, Law, Economics and Public Administration will get more importance. Research, books, articles or other academic contributions related to Nepal’s foreign policy will also be helpful in selection. Candidates will also have to explain how they will strengthen trade, diplomacy and cultural ties.

This decision is being appreciated a lot in Nepal. The government says that its objective is to make the appointment process of ambassadors transparent and merit-based. This will also provide an opportunity to people who are not part of the foreign service.

Tenure will be of 4 years

According to the rules, the tenure of the ambassador will be four years. This post will be considered equivalent to Gazetted Special Category. At present, 17 diplomatic posts are vacant in various countries of Nepal. 7 more posts are going to become vacant by August. In this way, a total of 24 posts will become vacant by September.

Recruitment is to be done in many countries including India, China, America, Britain, Australia, Israel, South Korea, Austria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Oman and Saudi Arabia. Positions will also be available in some international organizations.

Opportunity for those above 35 years of age

The age of the applicant should be at least 35 years. He should be a Nepali citizen and should not have permanent citizenship or residency of any other country. Persons convicted in cases of corruption or moral offense cannot apply. Candidates having good English, ability to negotiate and compromise, experience in business and investment, knowledge of organizations like United Nations, SAARC and BIMSTEC and good moral character will get additional advantage in the selection.
