If you use Microsoft Office daily then this news is important for you. India’s government cyber security agency CERT-In has issued a high risk warning regarding a serious security flaw in Microsoft Office. According to the agency, by taking advantage of this weakness, hackers can infiltrate any affected system and gain control over it. This flaw can affect millions of personal and business users. In such a situation, it has been advised to immediately install the new security update released by Microsoft.
CERT-In issues high risk warning
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), working under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has issued an alert regarding a serious security weakness found in Microsoft Office. This flaw has been named CVE-2026-45659. According to the agency, this weakness is present in some components of Microsoft Office, taking advantage of which an attacker can run arbitrary code on the affected system. This warning has been issued not only for companies but also for all those individual users who use Microsoft Office in their computers. CERT-In has placed this threat in the high risk category, from which its seriousness can be estimated.
Why is it dangerous?
According to CERT-In, this problem is related to deserialization of untrusted data. If we understand in simple language, if specially prepared data is sent to any weak system or server, then the hacker can run harmful code in it. This attack can also be done through the network. If the attack is successful, the attacker can access sensitive information, steal important data, make unauthorized changes to the system, or take control of the entire device. Since Microsoft Office is one of the most used software for creating documents, spreadsheets and presentations worldwide, this threat can affect a large number of users.
What needs to be done for protection?
To avoid this threat, the cyber security agency has advised all users and organizations to immediately install the latest security updates released by Microsoft. The agency says that by timely installing updates, the risk of possible cyber attacks related to CVE-2026-45659 can be reduced to a great extent. Many times users do not update software for a long time, due to which the vulnerabilities present in the system become an easy path for attackers. In such a situation, it is very important to always keep Microsoft Office updated. Regular security updates not only bring new features but also remove vulnerabilities that can be exploited by cyber criminals, keeping both the system and data safe.
