DMK party has now got permission to sit separately from Congress in the Lok Sabha (Parliament). Earlier DMK and Congress were allies. But now a new government has been formed in Tamil Nadu, in which Congress has joined along with TVK party. Due to this, relations between DMK and Congress have deteriorated and their old alliance has broken. Therefore DMK said that now our MPs will not sit next to Congress MPs. In fact, DMK leader MK Stalin had demanded separate seating for his party’s MPs from the Lok Sabha Secretariat. Now that demand has been approved.
In view of the changed political circumstances, DMK leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi had written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla requesting to change the seating arrangement. The party said on Thursday evening that it will not attend the ‘India’ block meeting to be held in New Delhi on June 8.
Fought assembly elections with DMK
Congress had contested the assembly elections under the pre-poll alliance with DMK. Because of this, bitterness has arisen between the two parties. Senior DMK leaders have termed Congress’s move as ‘stabbing in the back’ and ‘fraud’. Congress won only 5 assembly seats, but supported TVK in forming the government. DMK strongly criticized this move. Since then, the angry DMK has made it clear that it does not want any closeness with the Congress.
Will not attend the next meeting of INDIA block
The party has also refused to attend the next meeting of INDIA Block to be held on June 8. Senior DMK leader TKS Elangovan said that now we are not a part of the INDIA block and that is why we are not attending the meeting.
However, Congress justified its move saying that DMK had also contested the 2014 elections alone. Chief Minister Vijay’s party TVK was supported by Congress and became part of the new state government. This decision virtually ended the DMK-Congress partnership in Tamil Nadu.
