Crack in India alliance! DMK has now sought a place to sit separately from Congress in Rajya Sabha also.

June 5, 2026 by Uma Shankar

After Lok Sabha, now DMK’s demand for change in the seat system in Rajya Sabha has gained momentum. According to sources, DMK’s sentiments and demands have been conveyed to the Chairman of Rajya Sabha. Presently DMK sits in the first block in Rajya Sabha with Congress. Now under the new system DMK Is likely to be given a place in the second block, where leaders of many opposition and neutral parties are sitting. DMK leader Kanimozhi had written a letter to the Rajya Sabha Chairman on May 7 demanding a change in the seating arrangement of the party apart from the Congress.

Let us tell you that in Tamil Nadu, Congress had contested the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections along with DMK, but after the results came, they supported the TVK party and helped in forming the government. He got a Rajya Sabha seat as a reward. On the other hand, DMK has called Congress a ‘traitor’.

Clash between Congress and DMK after assembly elections

After the assembly elections, the meeting of India Alliance will be held in Delhi on June 8. They will discuss their joint strategy against the BJP-led NDA government and emphasize coordination among the opposition, but DMK India is going to boycott the alliance meeting.

DMK spokesperson has already announced that it will not attend the India Alliance meeting. DMK has made it clear that they are no longer a part of the India Alliance.

DMK will not participate in the India Alliance meeting

Party spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai said, “We want to stay away from the meeting in which the Congress is participating. The Congress betrayed us and backstabbed us. Our cadres are very upset and angry. Respecting their sentiments, the leadership has decided not to participate in the meeting of the India Alliance, in which the Congress is a part.”

The Congress-DMK rift has already reached Parliament. In a major indication of the rift in relations, DMK MP Kanimozhi had recently written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla demanding separate seating arrangement for DMK MPs, citing “changed political circumstances” after parting ways with the Congress. This step was considered the first formalization of the rift within the India block.
