CJP’s Parliament march: AAP targets Centre, says government is making mockery of law

July 20, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday criticized the central government for firing tear gas shells on protesters in the national capital. The party accused the government of arrogance for not starting talks with the students who were agitating demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. AAP MP Sanjay Singh said that the youth who have been protesting for many days have only one demand, that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should be removed from the post.

He said that after the brutal lathi charge on nearly 3000 students, youth and women detained by Delhi Police during the CJP Protest, it is extremely unfortunate and unjust to keep them detained like animals in various police stations and stadiums without food and water. Is it not a mockery of the law to keep girl students and women in police stations and stadiums for so long?

Peaceful protest is not a crime

Sanjay Singh said, how much lower will PM Modi stoop now? Peaceful protest is not a crime in a democratic country. I demand from Delhi Police that all the youth should be released immediately and their constitutional rights should be respected. Sanjay Singh said that this protest has been going on for several days. They have only one demand, resignation of the Education Minister and strict action in the question paper leak case. But no one in the central government has time to talk to the protesters. PM Modi has time to eat ‘Melody’, but not to talk to the protesters.

The AAP Rajya Sabha member said that the youth were beaten, tear gas shells were fired at them and they were treated as if they were citizens of an enemy country. He said that PM Modi should now understand that the youth has woken up. If you don’t listen to them, they will oust you from power.

Abhijeet Deepke should be released immediately

AAP leader Gopal Rai demanded that Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Deepke be immediately released from custody. Rai said that he had only demanded the removal of Dharmendra Pradhan, but the government instead removed (social activist) Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site. The students were marching peacefully, but barricades were put up on all roads around Jantar Mantar, force was used and Deepke was taken into custody. Delhi Police has said that Deepke has not been detained and the news related to his detention is wrong.

Government is very unpopular among Gen Z

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Atishi, AAP Delhi unit President Saurabh Bhardwaj and MLA Sanjeev Jha also addressed the press conference. Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the huge number of protesters shows that PM Modi and his government are very unpopular among Gen Z. People are still participating in the demonstration. Not only Delhi, but youth from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have also participated in it.

Gen Z is the generation born between 1997 and 2012. Earlier, Atishi, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh participated in CJP’s Parliament march.
