Nagarjuna Akkineni: Nagarjuna got angry at the trend of postponing the release of films, said – Why can’t we do like Hollywood?

July 21, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Nagarjuna on Release Delays: Veteran Tollywood actor Akkineni Nagarjuna never shies away from expressing his views openly. This time, the actor talked about a big problem of the Telugu film industry. Recently Nagarjuna attended the success event of his son Akhil Akkineni’s recent release ‘Lenin’, where the actor spoke openly on many issues. During this, the actor raised questions on the culture of postponing and delaying films at the last moment. He asked why Tollywood filmmakers struggle to decide the release date in advance like Hollywood.

At the success event of Akhil Akkineni’s ‘Laylin’, Nagarjuna expressed concern over the fact that delays in post-production work have now become a common thing in the industry. He said that work done in haste often has a negative impact on the final output of the film and nowadays the trend of delaying or postponing films is increasing.

Nagarjuna got angry

Nagarjuna said, “I request the technicians, directors and musicians. If we hand over the film to the post-production team at least 2 weeks before the release, they can make it great. This is not just for others, it is for me too. I too have worked on this film till the last minute.”

Hollywood’s example

Explaining the difference between Hollywood and Tollywood, Nagarjuna gave the example of famous Hollywood director Christopher Nolan. He said, “Recently ‘The Odyssey’ was released. They had announced the release date a year in advance. Why can’t we do this? And even when we do, why do we have to postpone it?” He also said that frequent date changes have a negative impact on both the audience and the business. Recalling the old times, Nagarjuna said that earlier the final release copies of films were prepared weeks in advance.

Used to see the copy a month ago

Nagarjuna shared that he had done the same for his film ‘Lenin’. The actor says, “I had fixed the release date of June 26, but we had to postpone it. We had completed the shooting, but the post-production work was still pending. This is just a request, because I remember well that for my films like ‘Ninne Peladatta’ or ‘Annamayya’, we used to see the release copy a month in advance. Why are we not able to do this now? For the betterment of cinema and its health. For this reason, I think we should definitely do this.”
