US President Donald Trump has said that his team is considering the idea that AI companies should give stakes in their companies to the American public. He also told that he can hold a meeting with officials of big companies in the AI sector next week. Speaking to reporters in Air Force One, Trump said, this idea is very interesting. This can create a kind of partnership between AI companies and the American public. We will consider it.
Earlier, digital news website NOTUS had reported that senior officials of the US administration have held preliminary level discussions with AI companies. These discussions also included the possibility that the US government could buy shares in some AI companies and take a stake in them.
However, the White House has not yet given any detailed information about this proposed meeting or the possible participation of the government. It is also not clear whether this issue will be formally discussed in the meeting or not.
In which companies can one have stake?
The major companies whose names have appeared in the report include OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Facebook (Meta) and SpaceX. These companies have not yet given any response on this topic. The Trump administration has been considering for a long time how strictly to control AI technology.
An executive order related to AI was scheduled to be signed on May 21, but it was suddenly canceled. According to media reports, tech companies had objected to some provisions of that order. At that time, Trump had said that he did not like some parts of the order and he did not want to take any steps that would weaken America’s position compared to China in the AI field.
These instructions were given to AI companies
Recently Trump issued a modified version of this order. Under this, big AI companies have been asked to make their most advanced AI models available for government cyber security tests before releasing them to the public.
Concerns about AI are also increasing. One reason for this is Anthropic’s new powerful tool Mythos. Experts say that if this technology falls into the hands of wrong people, then the risk of major cyber attacks in areas like banking may increase. The Trump administration has already taken stake in some big American companies. The government has also invested in Intel and some rare earth and quantum technology companies.
