There are possibilities of two simultaneous political earthquakes in the opposition camp. One is in West Bengal, where party leaders in Trinamool Congress have taken a rebellious stance, due to which Mamata Banerjee’s party seems to be divided into two factions. So at the national level, cracks are slowly appearing in the India alliance. Such questions are being raised after the meeting of India Alliance on Monday. In such a situation, BJP is seeing both these incidents as opportunities. Meanwhile, the statement of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has come to light. While talking to the media, he spoke openly about the current condition of Bengal and India alliance. He claimed that two major political crises are going on simultaneously in the opposition camp.
He said that the India alliance was full of internal contradictions right from the very first day. He said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had directly attacked Mamata Banerjee’s government before the Bengal elections. He had publicly criticized Mamata Banerjee and raised questions on her governance record. He said that Rahul had also given statements provoking the Left, DMK and other allies. Left, DMK and other parties also got isolated due to his inflammatory statements.
Reason for the fall of Trinamool Congress
Hardeep Puri said that the biggest symbol of the weakening of Trinamool Congress is the resignation of senior party leader and two-time Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy. Roy resigned three years before the end of his term. Roy cited corruption, political murders within the party and increasing atrocities against women as the reasons for his resignation.
Referring to the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case and the teacher recruitment scam, the Union Minister said, ‘He is not talking out of thin air’. Both these incidents became national symbols of institutional failure in Bengal. He said that a member of a family affected by the teacher recruitment scam was also made a candidate in the elections by BJP. Puri says that due to these incidents, anti-incumbency sentiment has increased among the people in the state.
End of TMC’s 15 year rule
He said that BJP registered a landslide victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections and ended the 15-year rule of TMC in the state. The party got a historic mandate from the public. He said that before this, CPM had ruled Bengal for decades. He said that this result has given a new shape to the political confidence of BJP.
‘We can do this in Punjab also…’
Referring to the atmosphere of the party, the Union Minister said that after the victory in West Bengal, suddenly everyone has started saying that we can do the same in Punjab also. He said that the party’s focus is now completely on Punjab, where assembly elections are going to be held next year. He said that this time BJP is entering the field in a very different situation in the state. He said that being the junior partner in the first alliance, BJP had never contested more than 23 seats out of 117 assembly seats in Punjab. Puri admitted that due to this the party could not make any ground.
‘BJP will contest elections on half the seats’
Hardeep Puri said that the situation is changing in Punjab now. He told that this time BJP will contest elections on at least half the seats. He believes that this will greatly strengthen the party’s political presence in the state. He said that no matter what the results of the elections are, this will give a strong presence to the party.
Target on Aadmi Party government
Targeting the Aam Aadmi Party government of Punjab, he made three big allegations. He said that the state government has proved to be a failure on many fronts like financial management, law and order and drug problem. He said that the law and order and drug crisis has deepened instead of being solved during the rule of the Aam Aadmi government. He alleged that the drug problem has become more serious during the tenure of the government which promised a drug-free Punjab. He alleged that from the revenue officers to the ambulance service, the state machinery is involved in the supply of fake drugs. Puri said that I think the government is guilty on every front.
Puri predicts defection in Punjab
Puri claimed that there will be major changes before the announcement of assembly elections. He said that six MPs of Aam Aadmi Party have already joined BJP. He has predicted more defection before the election is announced. He also cited Punjab’s municipal election results as a key indicator. He said that BJP’s vote share in the municipal elections of Punjab increased three times compared to the last time. The ruling AAP could not even get 1000 votes on some seats.
India alliance will move forward intermittently
On the future of India Alliance at the national level, Puri told Hardeep that it will move forward with hindrances because most of the constituent parties are moving towards new equations. He said that today other parties are not accepting the Congress party even as a junior partner. He said that the internal disintegration of TMC and the weakness of INDIA alliance are related to each other. Puri said that opposition voters angry with TMC now have no clear option to go anywhere else. He asked that if a voter is angry with TMC and is against BJP then where will he go? Will he trust Congress?
