The 1948 film ‘Nadiya Ke Paar’ featured that era’s superstars Dilip Kumar and Kamini Kaushal in the lead roles. Even though the film was a part of Hindi cinema, many of its songs were colored in Bhojpuri folk language and Purvanchali colours. This is the reason why it is counted among the earliest and most important stages of Bhojpuri music. In that period, making separate films in Bhojpuri language was almost negligible. At such a time, ‘Nadiya Ke Paar’ dared to bring the village environment, folk culture and Bhojpuri style on the big screen.

Talking about the songs of the film, the influence of Bhojpuri is clearly visible in many songs like ‘More Raja Ho Le Chal’, ‘Nadiya Ke Paar’, ‘Kathwa Ke Naiya’, ‘Nazariya Mein Aiho’. These songs had gained immense popularity among the audiences of North India at that time. The music of the film was composed by famous musician C. Ramachandra, while folk colors were given prominence in the songs. Almost 90 percent of the songs in the film were in Bhojpuri language.

About 15 years later, in the year 1963, ‘Ganga Maiya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo’ was released as the first Bhojpuri film and the official beginning of Bhojpuri cinema.

Today, when Bhojpuri industry has reached crores of viewers, it becomes necessary to remember this 78 year old Hindi film. Because history is witness that the echo of Bhojpuri songs was first heard not in any Bhojpuri film, but in a Hindi film ‘Nadiya Ke Paar’, which paved the way for the entire upcoming industry.
